2010 ASHRAE San Diego Fishing Trip

Nineteen anglers left Fisherman’s Landing on the evening of Thursday July 22nd aboard the 65-foot Pacific Dawn with high hopes for a big tuna catch the following day. Alas it was not to be, as the tuna bite has been far to the south of San Diego this year, kept out of the range of the overnight boats by unusually cold water. Fortunately the stalwart fishermen of ASHRAE would not be diverted from their mission and set off on a shore fishing expedition into Mexican waters that made up in action what it lacked in trophy fish.

Sheepshead, Ling Cod, Rockfish, Sandbass and Barracuda were the quarry and well over 100 fish were caught for the day. Brian Stichter of University Mechanical took the jackpot with the largest fish, a sleek 30-inch barracuda. As usual the accommodations and food on the Pacific Dawn were excellent, Great fishing, awesome food and drink and over $750 raised for the Chapter!

Many thanks to Pat Cavanaugh, the skipper of our vessel, and his crew, especially our cook Angel for keeping us comfortable and well fed on our journey. Thanks also to the companies that furnished raffle prizes, including the HVAC Exchange, University Mechanical, and Mason Industries. Special thanks to Air Treatment and Tri-County Insulation for sponsoring the tee shirts.

I would be very interested in hearing feedback on how to make the trip better and would welcome the assistance of anyone who would like to serve on the fishing trip planning committee.
