Committees

The different committees of the San Diego Chapter are truly what make things happen. In many cases, however, these "committees" are chaired and run by one volunteer. If you are interested in getting involved in the local chapter, please contact Steve Thompson.

Attendance / Reception - Chair: Laura Ellery
Laura and committee member Heather O'Donnell will be responsible for coordinating the attendance of each event and meeting with the programs chair. Their focus is to foster increased member participation in chapter affairs, particularly at chapter meetings.

Auditing - Chair: CJ (Jim) McKinley, P.E.
As a non-profit organization, theSan Diego Chapter of ASHRAE is required to go through an audit process each year to ensure that the chapter funds are properly allocated and accounted for. The committee reviews the treasurer's annual report before the end of the year.

CRC Action -Chair: Mark Bender P.E.
As the President-Elect, Mark is will be acting as the chapter's delegate at the upcoming CRC. Mark will be responsible for assembling final reports and rosters, submitting technical awards applications, and introducing motions for the Region.

CRC Planning - Co Chairs: Terry Erickson, Mark Bender P.E., Devin Abellon P.E.
This year, San Diego is proud to host the 2008 CRC. This committee will be responsible for the planning. This includes everything from signing contracts with hotels and caterers, setting up registration, publicity, and lining up speakers, to arranging excursions and events for all attendees.

Finance - Chair: Dennis Christie
As chapter Treasurer, Dennis is responsible for maintaining the chapter's banking accounts.

Historian - Chair: Bruce Johnson, P.E.
As longtime member and chapter historian, Bruce chronicles the events of the year and puts together interviews with notable members.

Honors and Awards - Chair VACANT (This could be you!)
As Honor and Awards Chair, you would promote the various Society and Regional awards to encourage Chapter members to apply and to assist them through the application process. You would also work on the various Chapter Awards.

Membership - Chair: Angelina Kalianda, P.E.
Angelina is responsible for the promotion of increased membership enrollment and the upgrading of members.

Mentoring - Chair: Bill Reagan
Bill coordinates the mentoring program, which provides young professionals with industry organizational information and practical training on strategies to overcome obstacles in their careers.

Nominating - Chair: Michael Burgess, P.E.
The nominating committee is responsible for selecting candidates for various positions and honors at the chapter, regional, and society level.

PAOE - Chair: Walter Houle
Walter manages the chapter's "Presidential Award of Excellence" points. PAOE points are used as a metric for gauging the activity and success of a chapter compared to other chapters in the region.

Programs / CTTC - Chair: Mark Bender, P.E.
Mark is responsible for coordinating the monthly programs and to keep the chapter membership up-to-date on technical information relevant to the local area.

Publicity / Welcoming - Chair: Jered Gervais
Jered is responsible for promoting the various events and meetings of the chapter. He is also responsible for welcoming new members. -

Refrigeration - Chair: George Misleh
George promotes the interests and activities of those ASHRAE members whose primary concern is refrigeration.

Research Promotion - Chair : Linda Alexander, P.E.
The Reseach Promotion Committee works to communicate effectively about the objectives, accomplishments and benefits of ASHRAE research and its value to every ASHRAE member and the industry. Linda works to increase the funding of Society-sponsored research through the chapter.

Special Events - Chair: Mark Silke
Mark coordinates the efforts of committee members in charge of the Chapter's special events, including the Golf Tournament, the Volleyball Tournament, the Trap and Skeet Tournament, the Holiday Party, Bocce (?) and Fishing Trips.

Student Activities - Chair: Carlos Valdez
The Student Activites Chair acts as the liaison between the chapter and area educational institutions. The committee works to develop and coordinate scholarships and other student incentive awards.

Website - Chair: Devin Abellon, P.E.
Devin is responsible for creating and maintaining the chapter website. He also develops much of the content and therefore often refers to himself in third person.

YEA - Co Chairs: Angelina Kalianda, P.E. / Devin Abellon, P.E.
Angelina and Devin coordinate the events for the Young Engineers in ASHRAE group.
